John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts – Opened in 1971, the Kennedy Center instantly established the capital as a locale for the performing arts on an international scale. Concerts, ballets, opera, musicals, and drama are presented in the center’s six theaters, and movies are screened periodically in the American Film Institute’s theater. Two restaurants on the Roof Terrace Level range from casual fare to more formal dining.
