George Washington's Mount Vernon

George Washington's Mount Vernon is one America's most beloved landmarks and is an everlasting tribute to the Father of our Country. Tour this beautiful estate and get a glimpse into life on a working 18th-century plantation, while exploring beautiful gardens and museums. Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington is within a half hour of Mount Vernon.

The Mansion

The historic Mt. Vernon mansion is one of the most iconic homes in America. Home to George Washington, the home started as a small farmhouse built by his father in 1735. Over 45 years it became the splendid 21-room residence of George and Martha that we know today.

The Outbuildings

The outbuildings of Mt. Vernon housed the many trades that kept the plantation going. The essential operations were performed in the buildings scattered throughout the grounds of the estates. Many more were built during the 1760s-1790s to secure economic independence of the property.

Gardens and Grounds

George Washington used Mount Vernon as an escape from the pressures of his job. The lush gardens, grounds and majestic views are what gave him peace. He oversaw every aspect of the landscape - from the walkways to the flowers to the native trees and shrubs.

The Tombs

Visit the final resting place of George and Martha Washington on the grounds of Mt. Vernon. Today, a beautiful wooded enclosure surrounds the brick tomb that marks the final resting place of the Father of Our Country and our country's first First Lady.
